Tom Gorzelanny's AAA Debut was a Beaut!
I absolutely love this guy. To me, he has the very best stuff in the organization and he is the real deal. He is raw and he needs some seasoning. Tonight he got his first sprinkle.
Throwing 77 pitches, 46 of them for strikes, Gorzy held the Pawtucket Red Sox to just one hit and no runs over four innings with 2 walks and 8 K's. Because it was just 48 degrees at game time, I heard Dave Littlefield, who was at the game, limited Tom to an 80 pitch count.
What is really amazing about Tom's feat tonight is the fact that the Pawtucket ballpark is the 13th easiest hitting ballpark in all of professional baseball (based on 2003 - 2005 park factors). Plus, it was cold with a 15 mph win blowing across the field.
There are obvious reasons for Littlefield to be at the game in my opinion -- one, to see Tom pitch. But more importantly, to scout the Red Sox farm system because he anticipates a trade. My guess is Casey to the Red Sox in July. Just a guess - but probably a good guess.
Congrats to Tom! He didn't notch a win but he showed everyone he can take the spring training experience and continue his progress forward even though he had to feel some disappointment not making the team over Santos or Snell.
Expect to see Tom up soon.

Sadler with 2 home runs tonight. Does anyone else think Ray sees a possible opening in center field? Keep up the good work Ray!
