GM Meeting Notes

I was surprised by the number of stories I pulled up about David Littlefield at the GM meetings at Google Wednesday. I knew the Pirates would be active, but wow.. we are just out of control it seems.

So I decided to truck down to the Naples Ritz-Carlton today and see what I could find out and I was able to run Littlefield down in the Pirates boardroom. I asked him a few questions:

Bucco Blog:  Dave - how are the meetings going?

Littlefield:  Thank you for the interest. Quite well, actually.

Bucco Blog:  Do you have a line on Soriano yet?

Littlefield:  Thank you for the interest. No, I don't think we will be able to sign Mr. Soriano this year.

Bucco Blog:  Do you have a line on Carlos Lee?

Littlefield:  No, Mr. Lee isn't on our radar either.

Bucco Blog:  Luis Gonzalez perhaps?

Littlefield:  Mr. Gonzalez is a player we respect and have an interest in, but we haven't spoken with him yet.

Bucco Blog:  Do you anticipate signing any free agents this year?

Littlefield:  There are a number of possibilities we are exploring.

Bucco Blog:  I heard Ian Snell and Paul Maholm are on the shopping block here. Have you had any interest in them?

Littlefield:  We will listen to any offer presented to us, of course. The market for starting pitchers is such that we believe we can be competitive in a trade with them.

Bucco Blog:  Is there any truth to the rumor that you have a deal worked out with the Rays to acquire Carl Crawford for Ian Snell and Mike Gonzalez?

Littlefield:  Did my dream last night actually make it to the floor as a rumor? haha I'm going to have to talk to Omar about talking too much.

Bucco Blog:  Tell me about the board, Dave.

Littlefield:  Thanks for the interest. We believe we can offer free agents perks that other teams can't so we have displayed a few of them here.

Bucco Blog: Is it true you bowled 98 the other day?

Littlefield:  Yes, with my handicap.

Bucco Blog:  Thanks for your time Dave.

Littlefield:  Anytime Jake.

Jake,
That's some fantastic photoshopping. You know, you might have a future there if this baseball blogging doesn't work out.
